Rendezvous 2
Tarquinia is the hometown of a great poet: Vincenzo Cardarelli.
At a young age, I was able to meet Titta Marini, a dialectal poet who had been a close friend of Cardarelli. Titta would often talk to me about him.
A few years later, I met an artist who used to declaim their poems passionately: Romano Santucci.
He was a painter and musician who knew a great deal about life and was able to communicate it. This poem by Vincenzo Cardarelli is dedicated to him.

Seagulls
I do not know where seagulls nest,
where they find peace.
I am like them,
in perpetual flight.
I skim through life
just as they over water to catch food.
And perhaps just as they I love the calm,
the great sea calm,
but I am destined to live
flashing in a storm.
Vincenzo Cardarelli
